Residential Services
Home Sharing is a service provided by contracted caregivers who welcome the individual into their homes, lives, and families. Home share contractors provide a safe, nurturing, community-based shared living arrangement for an adult with a developmental disability.
The Home Sharing arrangements vary depending on the unique needs of the individual being supported in the home. Arrangements may involve the individual having one caregiver, a roommate sharing an apartment or house, or a whole family supporting the individual with one family member as the primary caregiver.
The Home Share experience is fulfilling, rewarding, and the opportunities that become present open up a whole new world for both the individual and the caregiver.
The Fort St John Association for Community Living contracts with home sharing providers for the following two support services:
- Home Sharing - full-time residential care.
- Respite - periodic care for Home Sharing providers or families who need a break from caring for their loved one.
Compatibility is imperative. We are looking for people whose lifestyles and personal interests fuse with those of the people they support. Home Share providers go through an extensive screening process, which includes a detailed written application, self-assessment, home study process, physicians clearance, criminal record search, and completion of personal and professional related references.

Eligibility
1. You need to meet with your Community Living BC (CLBC) representative to determine whether you qualify for services. Once they determine that you are eligible for their services you need to plan for what services you may require. You are welcome to come and see our facilities to see what services may fit your needs. We will give you an intake form to complete.
2. Once the intake form is received, we will want to meet with you to discuss the services you require. At that point, we will determine if we are able to meet your needs. If so, we will make plans with you to enter our services. There may be a waitlist for services in some programs, or you may need to wait for additional funding from CLBC, if this is the case, we will inform you of this.
3. At this point, if the referral is accepted, a Person Centered Plan (PCP) should be started for the individual to set goals and outcomes for our services.
