GVDSS offers several programs and resources. These include:

1. Hang 21 Surf Event: Making Waves for Inclusion
Hang 21 is our annual surfing event designed to empower individuals with Down syndrome. Participants take to the waves under the guidance of experienced surf instructors who provide personalized support and encouragement. The event is about more than just surfing—it’s about confidence, connection and community. Families bond on the beach, share laughter and cheer each other on in a joyful, inclusive environment.

2. Parent to Parent Connections

3. Ups club is for children ages 0-8 along with their parents and siblings. This age is flexible.

4. Educational Outreach
GVDSS provides support to local educators and families to effect positive outcomes for inclusive education in the Greater Victoria area and to enhance opportunities for learners with Down syndrome.

5. Medical Outreach
GVDSS provides support to the local medical community both through education and as a resource to support the medical community in serving the health needs of the Down syndrome community. Past activities have included self-advocates and families speaking to medical students about their needs and expectations with respect to health care. We provide new parent information and resources to local neo-natal units and other health professionals that are usually the first point of contact between a new parent with a pre- or post-natal diagnosis. To support health care professionals best support families during the initial diagnosis, we promote the availability of fair and balanced information on both the medical diagnosis and life experiences of individuals with Down syndrome.
