Vocational Education and Skills Training Department at Douglas College – VEST: Douglas College offers Vocational Education and Skills Training (VEST) programs to people with disabilities or barriers to education and employment. Programs help students identify career paths, develop work skills, or move on to additional education or employment. It offers two programs. Career Preparation and Skills Training.
Career preparation : These two programs help students explore what type of work they may do in the future:
Career and Employment Preparation (CAEP)
Fit and Ready for Skills Training (FRST)
Skills training: These two programs train students in skills specific to one of the following areas:
Local Industry Skills Training (LIST)
Customer Service and Cashier Training (CSCT)
Career and Employment Preparation (CAEP) program: If you have had barriers to employment, this program is designed for you. Learn how to use your skills and abilities to choose a career and build your self-confidence to enter the workforce or pursue further training. You’ll learn practical stress- and time-management techniques, how to communicate directly and effectively, and have the opportunity to practice study and note-taking skills. A four-week work placement related to your career goals will help you integrate the skills you have practiced in the classroom. Test your ideas, gather information, gain exposure to worksites, and graduate with job-ready skills.
