Community and Counselling Services
Deltassist offers counselling and community-building in the form of workshops, events, senior support, outreach programs, and information services.
1. Counselling
Deltassist offers a variety of counselling options, designed to support members of the Delta B.C. community. We operate from locations in North Delta, Ladner, and Tsawwassen and have been caring for Delta since 1972. See the services below:
Family Counselling
We offer individual, couple and family counselling for those issues that are not addressed by other Deltassist programs. Free counselling is offered by Masters Level counselling interns who are supervised by our Manager of Counselling Services. Fee-for-Service counselling is provided by Registered Clinical Counsellors.
Seniors Counselling
Deltassist offers counselling for Delta residents age 55+, who may have concerns that are impeding their ability to live a healthy lifestyle. Support can be provided to improve quality of life, including physical, social, and emotional well-being. Outreach can be provided to seniors in their home communities and their homes as appropriate, and with family as applicable.
Services For Families (Referred By MCFD)
Deltassist offers various services to families who are referred by the BC Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD): Healthy Families program, one-to-one work with children, supervised visitation, outreach family counselling, and education in parenting skills.
Nobody’s Perfect Parenting
This free 6 week parenting program is offered to parents with children under 5 years of age, and covers children’s health, safety, development, and behaviour. Child care is provided during these weekly two-hour sessions, which are usually held in the morning.
Young Parent Outreach
Deltassist supports young and teen parents with support, education and mentoring. This program helps enable them to meet personal development goals while encouraging healthy development of their children.
Alcohol and Drug Counselling
We offer counseling to those directly or indirectly affected by a substance misuse problem, including individuals, couples, families, youth, seniors and groups. This includes treatment, education and prevention components.
Alternatives to Violence
If you are experiencing relationship violence this program provides assistance. It includes individual and group counseling for adult female victims of relationship violence and survivors of childhood sexual abuse.
Sexual Assault Response Program
The Sexual Assault Response Program is committed to ending sexualized violence through healing and community awareness. We are dedicated to supporting all women, men, trans, two-spirit and gender non-conforming survivors of sexual assault, who are aged 16 and up, through individual and/or group counselling, education, and empowerment.
Youth Suicide Prevention
Sometimes it’s tough being a teenager… Between school, friends, parents relationships, social media… the stress can be overwhelming. You might wonder what you can do to feel better?
Deltassist can provide assessment & counseling services for youth, with a focus on supporting teens in developing and using healthy ways to cope with stress. We also work collaboratively with schools and other community agencies and programs, as needed.
2. Community Programs and Services
Deltassist offers a number of programs designed to support the community.
Community Fund: Emergency Food & Bus tickets
The Community Fund provides Delta residents with emergency food and some types of transportation when it is not available elsewhere.
Food Security in Delta
Building capacity for a sustainable healthy community through locally grown and local gleaning for all Deltans.
Deltassist’s Community Garden
In the back parking lot of Delassist’s North Delta office is our very own Community Garden. Volunteers raise produce spring thru fall that is free for those in need.
Early Childhood Development
This program provides the free 6 week Nobody’s Perfect Parenting Program as well as services to parents, families and child care providers with children from 0 – 6 years.
Child care is provided for parents while the sessions cover children’s health, safety, development, and behaviour. Each session supports and encourages confidence in positive parenting.
The Ladner Early Childhood Development HUB is a Ministry of Children & Family Development initiative partnering Deltassist Family & Community Services, Boys and Girls Club Community Services and Child Care Options.
Delta Opposes Violence Everywhere (DOVE)
Preventing relationship violence through education, public awareness and coordinating efforts to reduce gaps in services that may exist.
Toy Depot And Christmas Hampers
Food is collected and then distributed in Christmas Hampers for low-income Delta residents. We also operate a Toy Depot where parents can choose Christmas gifts for their children.
Income Tax Assistance
If you require help with completion of your Income Tax return and you are a low income Delta resident, we have CRA trained volunteers ready to help.
Starfish Backpack Program
The program is simple. Participating schools identify students who would benefit from a Starfish backpack. Every Friday after school, students who are part of the Program pick up a backpack full of food for children and their families for the weekend and take it home. Monday morning the students return empty backpacks for refilling for the following Friday.
Pro Bono Law Clinic
Deltassist hosts monthly Pro Bono Law Clinics at both our North Delta and Ladner offices. These free 30 minutes private sessions are supported by Access Pro Bono Society of British Columbia and must be booked through the Justice Institute of B.C.
