Advocate for Service Quality
B.C.’s Advocate for Service Quality reports directly to the Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction.
The Office of the Advocate for Service Quality (OASQ) helps government better support:
Adults with a developmental disability (this includes Autism Spectrum Disorder and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder)
Teens with a developmental disability who are almost an adult
Teens with special needs
Family members and others who support a person with a developmental disability
The OASQ may act as a neutral third party with you, your family and service providers. We'll help solve problems and find solutions to concerns and complaints.
The OASQ’s goal is to get quality service for you and your family from:
Community Living BC (CLBC)
Government
Community agencies
Working with the Office of the Advocate for Service Quality
Advocacy is a collaborative process. We are respectful, non-judgmental, compassionate, understanding and fair.
When you work with us, we will:
Give you information and advice
Refer you to supports and services
Support your ability to “work through the system”
Give an outside perspective
Work with you to help solve problems
We help you seek quality service by:
Asking questions
Empowering you to advocate for yourself
Listening and making sure you have a voice
Building relationships
Being collaborative
Finding common ground
We also:
Review cases and processes
Track and raise awareness about systemic issues
Make recommendations to decision makers to improve policies and practices
Our services are free.
