Perspectives Substance Use Counselling Services for Youth & Families
Perspectives Substance Use Counselling Services for Youth & Families provides free counselling, education, referral and support to children and adolescents who are either experiencing substance use difficulties or are affected by someone else’s substance use.
Our counsellors offer support in a safe, confidential and non-judgmental atmosphere at our offices and in the community.
We believe that every person should be treated with respect, and that everyone has the ability to change and take responsibility for their physical, mental and social health.
Who We Serve
Perspectives Substance Use Counselling Services for Youth & Families is for youth aged 12 to 18 years or for children under 12 years with a parent or guardian as the primary client. We work primarily with youth living in New Westminster and their parents, guardians, partners, families and schools. Youth and their families who benefit from our services want to:
-Make changes to their substance use
-Receive help with mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression
-Reduce involvement with the criminal justice system
-Improve relationships with family and friends
-Improve chances of success at school and work

Eligibility
Any youth aged 12 to 18 years of age, or children under 12 years of age accompanied by a parent or guardian, living in New Westminster can self-refer by making an intake appointment via phone or visiting our office. Intake appointment times are arranged by our counsellors. There is no fee for intake appointments.

-A family member or friend
-School counsellor or a representative from a school, community group or social service organization
-A professional of the medical, mental health care or legal system
The first counselling service will take place upon intake.
