Child & Family Services
Child and Family Services provides prevention and risk reducing community-based support to families in the Tri-Cities, Anmore and Belcarra areas with children aged birth to 12 years old. This program is funded by the Ministry of Children & Family Development (MCFD). Referrals must come from a MCFD Social Worker or Child & Youth Mental Health (CYMH) Clinician.
This Child and Family team respects the integrity of each person with a compassionate response to struggles families are facing, through a collaborative and attachment-oriented approach. These services recognize the complexities impacting families including the various forms of trauma, cultural influences, and systemic barriers utilizing a strength-based approach.
Family Support Workers (FSW’s) offer outreach support to parents/caregivers in their home or community. Services include support with various issues, such as: understanding children’s behaviours and underlying needs, role of discipline, child development, therapeutic access, coping, advocacy, navigating community and government services (income assistance, affordable housing, MCFD), etc. FSW services are available in English, Farsi and Mandarin. Interpretation services are also available.
Clinical Counsellors offer counselling to children and adults through individual, couple and family sessions in an office setting. Play therapy with children may be included. Services include support with various issues, such as: anxiety, depression, coping, self regulation, addressing behavioural concerns, strengthening parent-child relationship, impact of trauma, grief and loss, improving communication, co-parenting, etc. Clinical Counseling services are available in English.
