Caregiver (Foster Parent) Support Program
The Caregiver (Foster Parent) Support Program (CSP) was developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) to provide support to foster families and family caregivers in order to maintain ministry placements.
CSP provides services to assist caregivers in managing a wide range of challenges and behaviours related to trauma, diagnoses, attachment, and transitions. CSP staff promote self-advocacy and provide support through individual in-person sessions, phone/text/email support, care team meetings, resources, and training opportunities.
Caregiver Training
CSP regularly provides training for caregivers in Abbotsford and Mission, as well as caregivers in the Fraser East who are contracted by the Fraser Valley Aboriginal Children and Family Services Society (FVACFSS). Trainings with FVACFSS have an Indigenous elder in attendance to help with cultural safety.
The curriculum is customized with the latest educational information and centered around peer learning. Topics include trauma-informed practice, strategies for challenging behaviors and attachment and development.
