Acute Rehabilitation
The Community Brain Injury Program for Children and Youth in BC (CBIPCY) is a program of the BC Centre for Ability. The BC Centre for Ability is a community organization that provides a continuum of services to children, youth and adults with disabilities.
Our free service is available to children and youth up to 19 years old who:
-Are diagnosed with an Acquired Brain Injury post-birth from a one-time illness or injury, such as a traumatic brain injury, brain tumours, infections, stroke/AVM, and other causes
-Need rehabilitation and support services.
-Were injured or diagnosed within the past 12 months.
-Have resided in B.C for at least a year and are BC residentswith a right to live permanently in Canada.
-Are not receiving funding through third party sources, including ICBC, Crime Victim Assistance, Private Insurance or lawsuit
Services Offered
Acute Rehabilitation
The Community Brain Injury Program provides short-term (up to 6 months), rehabilitation and support services for children and youth eligible for services. The goal is to assist the child or youth as they transition from hospital or rehabilitation centre to home, school, and community. Services are provided in the child/youth home community. Services provided can include Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Pathology, Psychology, Social Work, Rehabilitation Assistance Services and Neuro-psychology assessment.
Service Coordination
The CBIPCY assigns a Coordinator to each child/youth receiving acute rehabilitation services to ensure coordinated and quality services to meet the identified needs of the child/youth and the family.
