Peer Mentoring Program
People In Motion offers an opportunity for youth to participate in our "Peer Mentoring Program.
Youth Mentors will have hands on opportunity to work with peers with disabilities by attending our Youth Club. You will enjoy group activities like Blazers hockey games, movie nights and theme parties. Our Youth club meets once a month.
Youth can also attend our Summer Youth Recreation Program as Peer Mentors and participate in a variety of summer activities such as sports days, visits to the wildlife park, swimming and picnics at Cedar Creek Camp. This program is offered 3 days a week, five different weeks during July & August. You can pick which activities and times you would like to attend.
The objectives of this program are to:
Raise Youth Awareness - about youth with Disabilities
Raise Youth Awareness - about People In Motion
Allow Youth to Offer Peer Support for Youth Members in a Recreation Setting
Allow Youth to Earn Volunteer Hour Credits
Allow Youth to Develop Employment Skills
Youth Mentors will also receive specific training on:
People In Motion "the agency"
Safety and function of the Para Transit bus
Specific background information about disabilities
Some knowledge about personal care
Some knowledge about physical support [e.g. transfers]
