Supported Child Development (Port Alberni)
The Supported Child Development Program (SCDP) assists families of children who require additional support to be successful when attending inclusive child care programs. The SCD Consultants supports families and child care programs as they put plans into place to ensure your child has the best opportunity to develop to their fullest potential. The program serves children from birth to 18.

The SCD Consultants work utilizing a family centered approach. Having families and professionals working together, recognizing that families are the experts of their children.

The SCD Consultants work as part of an interdisciplinary team and provides the following services:

-Referrals to other services such as therapists and specialists
-Coordinate and facilitate team meetings
-Administer screening tools where required
-Where required provided funding for extra staffing, to ensure your child can fully participate in their childcare setting
-Lending library of toys and books for families
-Individualized planning to promote success
-Training / information for families and child care providers on development
-Assist families in accessing child care subsidies and / or Special Needs Supplement
-Kindergarten transition planning

The SCD Program is a free, voluntary program that promotes inclusion, with an open referral process which includes families ability to self-refer.

Eligibility
Participation in SCD is voluntary and the program is available to all families, including families on or off reserve. While the program is free, parents are responsible for child care fees. Low and middle income families may apply for child care subsidies to assist with child care fees.
